Gymnopilus purpuratus is a species of agaric fungus in the family Cortinariaceae. It grows in clusters on dead wood, tree stumps and wood chip mulch. It is widely distributed and has been recorded in Argentina, Australia, Chile, New Zealand, the UK and Germany.
